His Highness Prince Edward Bieniak II was born in 1960 in New York as the sole son and heir of Prince Edward Bieniak I and Marian Spaulding, Countess of Horne. His ascension to the role of Head of the Crown of Horne occurred on 13th September 2000, succeeding his mother, Countess Marian. As a male-line descendant of the House of Oldenburg, Prince Edward belongs to the Bieniak-Horne branch of the House of Glücksburg and the extended Greek-Danish Royal Family.
The prince shares family ties with his two sisters, Princess Luann and Princess Sheryl.

Born Deaf, Prince Edward's upbringing involved the use of American Sign Language, his native language. He attended a Catholic school for the Deaf and split his time between New York and Ontario, Canada.
